Scheduled bodies
Overview
A scheduled body is a local government employer like:
- local authorities (county councils, district/borough councils, unitary authorities, metropolitan districts, London boroughs)
- police and fire authorities (civilian staff only)
- coroners
- academy trusts (non-teaching staff only)
- Further education and sixth form colleges
- higher education corporations
- other bodies listed in part 1 of schedule 2 of the LGPS regulations.
Cessation policy
As a scheduled body you’re legally obliged to take part in the LGPS. Therefore it’s rare for a scheduled body to permanently leave the scheme. The following circumstances would usually lead to a permanent exit for scheduled bodies:
- Local Government restructure
- closure or merger of a college, higher education corporation or academy trust.
The circumstances around your exit and particularly whether there will be a successor body taking responsibility for any liabilities will determine how we manage your exit.
You should contact us as soon as you know an exit is possible to discuss the implications and any actions you need to take.
