How to move to the 50/50 section

If you’re not a member of the LGPS or have already opted out, you can’t move to the 50/50 section until you’ve joined the main section. You can ask to move to the 50/50 section as soon as you’re enrolled. If you’ve more than one job, you can move to the 50/50 section in none, some or all your jobs. You’ll need to fill in the 50/50 option form and give it to your employer’s payroll or human resources department. You’ll usually be moved into the 50/50 section from the start of following month.

The 50/50 section is designed to be a short-term option for when you’re struggling with the cost of living. Because of this your employer has to re-enrol you into the main section of the LGPS every 3 years. If you’d like to continue in the 50/50 section at that time, you’ll need to fill in another 50/50 option form.

You can choose to rejoin the main section of the LGPS at any time. You’ll need to fill in the ‘Option to join or rejoin the main section form. Please give the form to your employer’s payroll or human resources department.
