Under 55
If you:
- are under 55
- have at least 2 years LGPS membership, and
- leave because of redundancy
your pension becomes deferred. This means you can’t pay into it anymore, but we’ll look after it until you retire. It will be adjusted each year with the cost of living. You can choose to take your pension between the ages of 55 and 75. They’ll be reduced if you take them before your State Pension age. You can find out more about deferred pensions on our Leaving before retirement page.
The Government has said the earliest age you can take your pension will increase to 57 from 6 April 2028.
