Who can join?

Whether you can join the LGPS depends on:

• your age
• who you work for
• the job that you do.

You must work for an employer that offers membership of the scheme. The LGPS is offered by local government employers and by other eligible organisations that have chosen to take part in the scheme. If you work for a:

• designating body, like a town or parish council, or
• non-local government organisation that takes part in the LGPS as an admission body like a charity or contractor

you can only join if your employer nominates you.

Who can’t join?

You can’t join the LGPS if you’re over age 75 or if you’re able to join another public service pension scheme.
